LG Electronics has donated a solar-powered borehole system and a mobile laundry cabin to the Ikija community in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
In a statement, Choongbae Seok, general manager, media solutions, TV division, LG Electronics West Africa, said the project is part of the company’s effort to strengthen communities through sustainable technology.
The borehole is equipped with a solar-powered pump and filtration system to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water, while the mobile laundry cabin, fitted with washing machines and dryers, will be open to residents free of charge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
“This project embodies dignity, well-being, and hope,” Seok said.
“By combining renewable energy with community service, we are setting a new benchmark for social impact projects in Ogun State".
Oladipupo Taofeek, chairman of the Ikija community development association (CDA), described the donation as a “game-changer”, saying residents had struggled with access to water and basic laundry facilities for years.
Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, commissioner for housing in Ogun, who was represented by Kolawole Agemo, senior special assistant to the governor on housing, commended LG for supporting the state government’s efforts to improve living conditions.
According to the World Health Organisation, more than 60 million Nigerians still lack access to clean water. LG says the project, part of its “Life’s Good” initiative, is designed to support health, hygiene, and social inclusion in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, state officials, and LG executives.
