Globacom has collaborated a with technology firm Cubecover to unveil a device protection service for mobile phone users, offering affordable cover against screen and water damage.
The service, introduced via an email statement on Thursday, is the first of its kind in Nigeria and allows both new and existing Glo subscribers to insure their devices with premiums as low as N50 per day.
According to the Head of Value Added Services at Globacom, Mr. Mojeed Aluko, subscribers can receive up to N50,000 worth of free screen repairs or replacement, depending on the damage. The protection, however, becomes active only after a customer maintains a valid subscription for 30 consecutive days.
“For as low as N50 daily, N300 weekly, or N600 monthly, our customers can access meaningful protection that helps them stay connected even when accidents happen,” Aluko said.
To activate the service, users are required to dial 70131# and choose their preferred subscription plan. New customers can walk into any Gloworld outlet, purchase a SIM card and device, and enrol for the package on the spot.
Payment for the protection plan is deducted from the customer’s airtime either as a one-off or through auto-renewal. Upon payment, subscribers receive a link to run a diagnostic test on their phone. Once the screen passes inspection, the device’s IMEI number is registered with Cubecover.
Managing Director of Cubecover, Deji Macaulay, said the partnership would provide relief for users concerned about the high cost of phone repairs.
“This service is unique because of its simple enrolment process, affordable micro-premiums, and fast verification technology. It offers real peace of mind to millions of Nigerians,” he said.
Globacom described the offering as a tech-enabled innovation designed to reduce the financial burden of unexpected phone damage, enhance device longevity, and promote seamless connectivity for customers.
